This article explains what the Quantity field does in Shopify and how it interacts with BookThatApp (BTA) in different booking scenarios.
Widgets vs. Classic Booking Forms
As of 2025, we recommend using widgets instead of classic booking forms.
Widgets offer several advantages:
No coding changes required
A modern design that blends seamlessly with your theme
More configuration options
Better overall app performance
Quantity Field in Widgets
If you are using a widget, you can enable or disable the quantity selector directly from the widget’s settings:
Go to Widgets in the BookThatApp admin
Open your existing widget
Adjust the Quantity selector setting as needed
Classic Booking Forms
The information below applies only to classic booking forms.
Traditionally, the Quantity field on a Shopify product page represents the number of units being purchased.
Note:
If the Quantity field is not visible on your product page, check your Theme Editor settings, or refer to Shopify’s documentation on enabling the quantity selector.
How BookThatApp Uses the Quantity Field
When BookThatApp is installed, the Quantity field can represent:
The number of units, or
The number of days a product is booked or rented
In some cases, you may need to track both units and days. The correct setup depends on your booking scenario.
Booking Scenarios
Scenario 1: Fixed Rental Periods + Number of Units
Example: Customers choose between predefined rental durations (e.g. 4 days or 8 days) and select how many units they want.
With this setup, you can:
Configure a rental product in BookThatApp
Allow customers to select a rental duration and start date
Use the Quantity field to represent the number of units being rented
Follow the setup instructions provided in the relevant BookThatApp documentation to implement this scenario.
Scenario 2: Custom Date Range (From / To Dates)
Example: Customers select a start date and an end date for the rental.
Configure a rental product in BookThatApp
Allow customers to select both a start date and end date
In this scenario:
The Quantity field can represent the number of rental days
We recommend hiding the Quantity field so customers cannot manually change it
Alternatively, the Quantity field can represent the number of units, depending on the product setting “Date range updates quantity?”.
Scenario 3: Date Range + Number of Units (or Guests)
Example use cases:
Customers select a date range and the number of units to rent
Accommodation bookings where customers select the number of guests
First, set up your product using the standard rental setup instructions here
Because quantity is used together with variants to calculate pricing:
The standard Shopify Quantity field must be hidden
An additional custom field must be added to the booking form to capture quantity (units or guests)
Follow the instructions in this guide to complete the setup:
