One of our largest customer groups is Shopify store owners who run classes or events alongside selling products. This guide walks you through how to set up a class or event using BookThatApp (BTA).
Note: Within the app, a class occurs on a single date, while a course spans multiple days. Courses are only supported via the Course Widget.
Demo example: https://bookthatapp-demo-store.myshopify.com/products/classes-economics-101
Step 1 — Set Up Your Shopify Product
- Create a Shopify product to represent your class or event.
- Set the inventory to Do Not Track.
- Add variants if applicable (e.g. Class, Class + Course Material).
Note: You do not need to enter dates or times as variants — this is handled within BTA.
Step 2 — Configure the Product in BTA
1. On the BTA Install page, click on the "Setup Wizard" and select "Classes" to create the Class widget or follow this guide to create the Upcoming event widget.
2. Import your product into BTA.
3. Choose "Class/Course" as the Profile.
4. Enter the Capacity of the class (max number of people permitted per time slot)
5. Choose to base capacity on Product or Variant. In most instances, it will be product based. However, if you offer class material with the class and only have a limited amount (ie. 10 textbooks) then you may choose to use variant based capacity.
6. Enter the Duration for the class or each variant.
7. Select to hide any variants you do not want the booking calendar to appear on.
8. Add a Resource (if applicable)
9. Add a Location (if applicable)
10. Add a cutoff date or future date (if applicable)
11. If desired, choose a set of colours for the class. This allows you to differentiate classes by colour on the Booking Overview Calendar.
Step 3 — Create the Class Schedule
12. Create the schedule for your class:
- One-off Dates — Use this for irregular dates (e.g. Jan 1, Feb 5, Mar 12).
- Repeat — Use this for classes that recur on a regular basis (e.g. every Monday at 6:00 PM).
Note: If you need to run a multi day class, then you need to use the Course Widget. Please see https://support.zetya.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000686815-Setup-Guide-Course-Widget.
Step 4 — Finish Up
13. Hit Save.
14. Add a link to your navigation to show the Calendar Page.

OK i see now. Thank you!
Hi - I'd like to be able to use variants to group similar classes together. For example "kids classes" as the product, then different class types as the variants. BookThatApp doesn't let me assign different date/time schedules for each of the variants tho - only at the product level. So I end up having to create a separate product for every kids class - this clutters up my shopify website. Is there a way around this?
Hi Wendy
The app supports creating a schedule at a store or a product level not a variant level. I would recommend you use the Filter function on the BTA overview calendar to allow customers to sort your classes by type (ie. Kids). This would then only show them the kid's classes. You can do the same using Shopify collection functionality. A customer who uses both the Filter and the Collection functionality really effectively is http://www.bakewithmaria.com/apps/bookthatapp/calendar.
This particular format then lets the user see the specific schedule for a given class from the outset rather than clicking a generic class type (ie. Kid's), choosing a variant and only then seeing the schedule.

How do I view the list of users who signed up for a class?
Hi Rebecca
You can use the Run Sheet or the Enrolment report in the BTA admin.
Thanks
