This guide walks you through configuring a rental product in BookThatApp. The rental widget lets customers select a single date or a date range, and supports three pricing models: fixed duration variants, a flat daily rate, or daily rate breaks based on rental duration.
Before you start: Make sure you've enabled the BTA Booking Widgets App Embed for your Shopify theme. See Enabling the BTA Booking Widgets App Embed for instructions.
There are 4 parts this guide will cover:
- Creating the product in Shopify
- Configuring the product in BookThatApp
- Configuring Operating Hours
- Setting up the product Rental Widget for your store

1. Create the product in Shopify
Start by creating the product that will represent your rental service in the Shopify admin.
- Create a new product in your Shopify admin.
- Under Inventory, disable Track quantity. BookThatApp manages availability through its own Capacity settings.
- Add variants if applicable (e.g. Color, Size, Duration) and set pricing based on one of the three scenarios below.
- Select Save.
Choose a pricing scenario
Your pricing setup in Shopify determines how you'll configure duration and capacity in BTA. Pick the scenario that fits your rental model — you'll reference it throughout the rest of this guide.

|---|---|---|
| A | Fixed rental durations | Set a fixed price per duration variant (e.g. 1 day, 3 days, 1 week). |
| B | Fixed daily rate | Charge a flat per-day rate. Customer selects a date range and pays accordingly. |
| C | Daily rate breaks | Price breaks based on rental length — longer rentals get a lower daily rate. |

Once your Shopify product is saved, go to the product page and select More Actions → BookThatApp Configuration to import it into BTA.
2. Configure the product in BookThatApp
After selecting the BookThatApp configuration from the Shopify product configuration page, you will be redirected to the Service configuration page in the BTA app.
- If this is your first configured service, you can close the Import Product Settings window. This option can be used later on to copy and apply the service settings from another existing service and ignore the remaining steps below.

Under Booking type, choose "Product" to set your Product Rental service booking type.
- Enter the Capacity for the Service (max number of the product available at any 1 time):
3.1 If you hold a single model of the item to rent, leave the capacity Basis set to Product and insert your inventory/number of items:
3.2 If you created variants to represent different models of the same item i.e.: Color, Size, set capacity Basis to the Variant level instead (variants ):
Note: Variants that represent Rental Durations should not be set as the basis of capacity Make sure the checkbox for the duration variant option is unchecked if you have one configured for the product. -
Enter the Duration for the Rental:
4.a) Fixed Durations - If the service has fixed duration(s), keep the duration basis set to a "Variant" level (or "Product" level you did not create any duration variants):
4.b) Fixed Daily Rate - to offer a daily rate you will set the duration basis to a "Product" level and set the value to 1 full-day:
4.c) Price Breaks Based on Rental Duration - To implement this, base the Duration off of "Variant". Select the "Variants represent date range?" checkbox and enter the duration values in the Range From and Range To fields.Other Service settings
- Add Lead or Lag times (if applicable).

Enter the minimum and maximum values for the Date Range, and select to either Count days or nights. The Count days or nights will impact how the selection will be represented through the Widget:

full-day bookings: - Add a cutoff date or future date (if applicable);

If desired, choose a set of colors for the product. This allows you to differentiate products and events by color on the Booking Overview Calendar.
- Select Save.
BTA Operating Hours Page
The times available for bookings across all of your appointment products are determined by the Operating Hours. You can find them at BTA Admin-> Settings-> Operating Hours.

Widget Configuration
The product rental widget provides a sleeker look and feel compared to the classic booking form. There are several settings that you can choose from and the widget preview updates in real-time so you can see the effect of the changes.
Installation
- Access the widgets section of the app by selecting Widgets.
- Select Rentals and under "Add more widgets to your store":
- In the Services tab of the widget, you can choose to use this widget configuration for all your products/services or you can specify specific products/services.
- Configure the Product Rental Widget Settings as desired.
Make sure to enable the option of "Allow Date Range" if you initially chose one of the setup methods b) or c).

Store Configuration
If you chose setup method b) or c) you will need to navigate in the app to Settings-> Order Processing and set the "Date range updates quantity" option to "Yes":
