This guide explains how to configure Deposits in BookThatApp (BTA).
Overview
Deposits allow you to charge a set fee or percentage of the product cost at the time of order. The remaining amount can be collected later, typically at the time of booking.
You can now create multiple pricing rules for deposits, so different products can require different deposit amounts. For example, Product A can use a $50 deposit while Product B uses a $150 deposit. Each product can only be assigned to one pricing rule.
Availability:
- Works only with booking widgets
- Available for Premium and higher app subscribers
Note: A deposit charges a partial amount upfront, while a Security Bond adds a separate refundable product cost. For Security Bonds, see: https://support.zetya.com/hc/en-us/articles/4520718599311-Security-Bonds
Step 1: Enable Deposits
- Navigate to Settings → Deposits & Bonds in the app.
- In the Deposit section, select Enable.
- Enter a Name. This name is used as the Shopify deposit product name.
- Under Pricing rules, set up how the deposit should apply
- Click Add rule to create a new pricing rule. Only one Global rule is allowed, and each product can only appear in one rule total. For each rule, configure:
- Name – a label for this pricing rule
- Price type – Fixed amount or Percentage
- Amount – the deposit value
- Optionally check Allow full payment to let customers pay the full amount upfront instead of just the deposit. Under Applies to, choose:
- Global – the rule applies to all products, or
- Specific products – assign particular products to this rule
- Repeat this process to add additional rules for different products with different price points.
- Optionally, enable Allow full payment to give customers the choice to pay the full amount upfront.
- Click Save.
Note: The product must be visible in the Online Store. Only widgets are supported; classic booking forms will need to be switched to widgets.
Step 2: Customer Experience
- The deposit price is displayed in the widget on the product page.
- Customers complete the order by paying the deposit amount.
Step 3: Finalize Payment
- When the booking date approaches or after the booking occurs, locate the booking in the app.
- Click the Finalize Payment button. This generates a draft order in Shopify.
- Access the draft order in Shopify to finalize it and invoice the customer for the remaining balance.
This process allows you to manage deposits while keeping payment collection organized and automated.
