What Are Bundles?
With BookThatApp (BTA), you can rent out bundles of products - combinations of individual items that would normally be booked separately. Bundles allow you to:
- Offer discounted rates for package deals
- Streamline the booking process for customers
- Increase average order value by grouping complementary items
- Simplify inventory management for popular product combinations
Example Scenario: Winter Gear Bundle β·οΈ
Let's walk through creating a winter gear rental bundle that includes:
- Ski boots
- Ski suit
- Gloves
- Ski poles
This bundle will be treated as a single bookable product, but inventory will be tracked for each individual component.
Important Considerations π
Product Variations: If any component product comes in different sizes or colors, you must create separate product versions for each variation before proceeding with bundle setup.
Setup Process
Step 1: Create Products in Shopify Admin ποΈ
In your Shopify admin Products section, create 5 total products:
- Ski Boots (component product)
- Ski Suit (component product)
- Gloves (component product)
- Ski Poles (component product)
- Winter Gear Bundle (bundle product)
The first four are your component products - the individual items that make up the bundle. The fifth product represents the complete bundle package.
Step 2: Create Resources in BTA Admin βοΈ
Next, access the BookThatApp admin to create equipment resources for each component:
Creating Equipment Resources
- Navigate to Settings β Staff and Resource Management β Resources
- Click the Create Resource button
- Configure each resource with these settings:
- Resource Type: Select Equipment
- Capacity: Enter the inventory quantity you have for this product
- Repeat this process for all 4 component products
You should now have 4 equipment resources corresponding to your ski boots, ski suit, gloves, and ski poles.
Step 3: Configure Component Products π§
Configure each of your 4 component products in BTA as you normally would, with one key difference:
- Capacity Setting: Base capacity on Resource
- Resource Assignment: Assign the corresponding component resource to each matching product
For example:
- Ski Boots product β Ski Boots resource
- Ski Suit product β Ski Suit resource
- And so on...
Step 4: Configure Bundle Product π¦
Now configure your Winter Gear Bundle product:
- Capacity Setting: Base capacity on Resource
- Resource Rule: Set to AND (this is crucial)
- Resource Group: Create a group containing all 4 component resources
The AND rule ensures that the bundle can only be booked when all component products are available simultaneously.
How It Works π
Once configured:
- Availability Check: A bundle booking is only possible when all component products are available
- Automatic Inventory Updates: Inventory adjusts automatically for both component and bundle products when bookings are made
- Flexible Booking: Customers can still book individual components separately, or choose the bundle option
Benefits for Your Business π
- Simplified Customer Experience: One-click booking for popular product combinations
- Increased Revenue: Bundle pricing encourages larger purchases
- Efficient Inventory Management: Automatic tracking across all product types
- Reduced Booking Complexity: Fewer individual selections for customers to make
Next Steps
After setting up your bundle:
- Test the Configuration: Make test bookings to ensure availability logic works correctly
- Set Bundle Pricing: Configure attractive bundle pricing in Shopify
- Update Product Descriptions: Clearly communicate what's included in the bundle
- Monitor Performance: Track which bundles perform best for future optimization
Bundle products provide an excellent way to increase customer satisfaction while streamlining your rental operations.

will you be making this possible for classes with times and dates as well?Β
Hi Jamie, it will work for any booking profile.
Hey, regarding this:
If a component product comes in different sizes or colors you will need to create separate versions of the product.
If I am about to start adding my rental products with variations and using capacity, how would I later create bundles from those products (still correctly updating capacity)? Or should I create separate products for each variation to use the bundling feature?
I'm looking to create bundles with items that can also be rented individually. I don't want to track duplicatory inventory between the two entries of resources and the actual product entry. Is there way to do this?
Hi Evangeline π, this is possible as seen in the updated video. The resources assigned to the individual products should be shared with the bundle product. This helps to track the inventory between the individual products and the bundle.
